What We Do:
  • Analyze the domain of the website you are actively visiting.
  • Fetch and analyze the public text of Privacy Policies.
  • Cache AI summaries anonymously to improve speed for everyone.
What We DON'T Do:
  • Track your identity or use tracking cookies.
  • Sell or share your data with advertisers.
  • Store permanent logs linking your IP address to your browsing history.

1. Our Core Philosophy

Privacy Pulse is built on a simple principle: Your data is yours. We designed this extension to help you protect your privacy, and we hold ourselves to the highest possible standards. We collect the absolute bare minimum amount of data required to make the extension function.

2. What Data We Collect & Why

When you visit a website, Privacy Pulse checks if the site has a Privacy Policy. If it does, we may extract the text of that policy and send it to our backend AI server for analysis.

  • Website Domains: We temporarily process the domain you are visiting (e.g., `example.com`) to check our analysis cache and query public data breach databases.
  • Privacy Policy Text: We extract the public text of the privacy policy, or our backend server may fetch it directly if extraction fails.

We DO NOT collect: Your browsing history, IP address, personal identifiers, account information, or any content on pages that are not privacy policies.

3. Data Retention

Our systems cache the analysis results of a public privacy policy (the generated summary and rating) securely in our Upstash Redis database for up to 14 days to improve performance for all users. While we do not require user accounts, standard server access logs (which temporarily record the requested domain and the requesting IP address) are retained by our hosting infrastructure for a short period for security and system monitoring.

4. Third-Party Sharing

We utilize secure third-party services to power the extension:

  • Google Gemini (AI): Processes public policy text to generate ratings. No personal metadata is attached, and the AI is prohibited from using this data for training.
  • Upstash (Redis): Securely caches the generated domain summaries for 14 days.
  • HaveIBeenPwned: We send the requested domain to this public API to check if the company has suffered recent data breaches.

We never sell or share your data with advertisers.

5. Local Storage

Your analysis history and trusted domains list are stored locally on your device using your browser's native storage. While the extension must send the current website's domain to our backend API in real-time to fetch the privacy rating, your historical log of all visited sites remains entirely on your local computer.
